In 1937, the prominent political figure Nikolai Bukharin was arrested, and his wife Anna Larina-Bukharina was declared a member of the family of a traitor to the Motherland and sent into exile. Anna learned of her husband's death in the Tomsk camp, where she ended up on trumped-up charges. She spent 19 years in prison, and after her release she wrote heart-wrenching memoirs in which her personal drama is intertwined with the tragedy of the Great Terror. Recalling her years in prison and camp, she describes the absurdity and cruelty that became part of the lives of hundreds of thousands of innocent people. The book depicts her acquaintance with Bukharin, the background to the "Bukharin trial", the difficult camp life, and the fates of other repressed people. The reader is also presented with vivid portraits of Stalin, Trotsky, Rykov, Radek, Ordzhonikidze, Yezhov, Beria, and other party leaders. These memoirs are not only an inside look at the tragedy of the era, but also the story of the struggle for truth and the rehabilitation of Bukharin’s name, to which Anna dedicated her entire life.
