Alexander Nilin (b. 1940) is a novelist, memoirist, and author of several biographies, including "Peredelkino: Over the Fences."

In his new novel, "Inconclusive Diagnosis," Nilin tells of friends and contemporaries known to the general public, as well as the loved ones who make up his family circle. Among the former are Viktor Shklovsky, Yevgeny Yevtushenko and Yevgeny Rein, Anatoly Nayman, Igor Kio, Leonid and Galina Brezhnev, Mikhail Ardov, Alexander Maryamov, Viktor Merezhko, and many others. His wife, Natalya Ivanova, his father, Pavel Nilin, and his brother, Mikhail, are also present. Also present are university exams, his favorite haunts, "Airport" and Peredelkino, "Masha's Chestnut"—all of which the author himself calls "until-lost illusions."

“It seems to me that through my life I used the opportunity to depict the time in which I lived, and a continuation should have followed” (Alexander Nilin).
