Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov (1730–1800), Prince of Italy, Count of Rymnik and the Holy Roman Empire, Generalissimo of the Russian Army, and Field Marshal of the Austrian Army—the greatest Russian commander, a master strategist, and an unrivaled tactician of his time.

This collection opens with his famous instruction on combat training, "The Science of Victory." The exact date of this document's composition is unknown; it is generally believed that Suvorov developed its basic principles while still commander of the Suzdal Regiment (c. 1768), and that the final version was completed after the Polish campaign of 1794.
During Suvorov's lifetime, "The Science of Victory" was never published and was circulated in handwritten copies; not a single copy signed by its author has survived. For this publication, two of the oldest versions were used—by M. Antonovsky (1806) and P. Kuznetsov (1809). The version stored in the Russian State Military Historical Archive, verified against P. Kuznetsov's text, served as the basis. Therefore, the published text must be very close to the authentic version.

The next book in the collection was compiled by Captain Konstantin Lyudvigovich Nonnenman (Olshevsky) (1865–after 1915): "Generalissimo Suvorov's 'Science of Victory'." According to the compiler, the book includes materials consisting of notes and copies of Generalissimo Suvorov's own drawings and sketches, as well as his accompanying inscriptions on various military matters. The introductory article is by Alexander Nikolaevich Apukhtin (1861/1862–1928), a Russian military leader, lieutenant general, and participant in the Russo-Japanese War and World War I.

The collection continues with two biographical novels dedicated to Suvorov, written by Nikolai Alekseevich Polevoy (1796–1846), "The History of the Prince of Italy, Count Suvorov-Rymniksky, Generalissimo of the Russian Troops" (1843), and Alexander Ivanovich Krasnitsky (1866–1917), "The Russian Miracle Leader: Count Suvorov-Rymniksky, Prince of Italy, His Life and Exploits" (1910). The collection concludes with Vasily Alekseevich Alekseyev's (1863–1919) study, "Suvorov the Poet" (1901).
