The name of Admiral Pavel Stepanovich Nakhimov (1802-1855) is inscribed in the history of Russia's military glory. A graduate of the Naval Corps participated in a three-year round-the-world voyage, received his baptism of fire in the Battle of Navarino against the Turkish fleet, built and armed ships in Arkhangelsk, Kronstadt and Nikolaev, defended the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus from the Turks and mountaineers, led engineering work in the Novorossiysk Bay, won a brilliant victory over the Turkish squadron at Sinop. Nakhimov was called the soul of the defense of Sevastopol - "Russian Troy" - in the Crimean War. His life and death is a vivid example of fulfillment of military duty.
How did a native of land Smolensk province become a sailor? How was he connected with the Russian colonies in North America and why was he involved in the investigation of the Decembrists? Why was he nicknamed the sea Suvorov? These questions are answered in the book by historian and writer Natalia Petrova, based on published and archival documents, which tells about the life of the naval commander, who became a national symbol of fortitude and courage.
