“Be like a rock: the waves are constantly breaking against it, it is standing still, and the excited waters subside around it.” Marcus Aurelius doubted and feared, knew other people's meanness and rudeness, he was discussed and condemned - and at the same time he invariably found the strength to remain calm, fortitude, firmness of character. His diary shows a colossal work on himself, a scrupulous analysis of feelings and thoughts, which allowed him to become one of the five good emperors under whom the Roman Empire reached its peak.

In this edition, the original text is given with a parallel translation by Professor of Moscow University, historian of philosophy and translator S. M. Rogovin. For ease of reading, each item in Russian stands opposite the corresponding item in ancient Greek.
Artists and engravers of different eras often turned to antiquity, seeking both to capture its cultural heritage with amazing accuracy and to create their own myth about the majestic Ancient Rome. The inevitability of the death of an ancient civilization, the search for a path, the irreversible flow of time and extinction - these topics were occupied by Giovanni Piranesi, Albrecht Durer, Antonio Lafreri, Lambert Zutman, Fabio Berardi, Antonio Veneziano, Giovanni Brambilla, Angelique Kaufman, Jean Barbeau, Johann Fusley, whose works are presented in this publication. Antonio Lafreri, an engraver and cartographer, in the XVI century began to publish images of Rome by his brush and brushes of other artists, who sometimes hid behind a monogram. These works later became known as the Speculum Romanae Magnificentiae; some of them also illustrate the present book by Marcus Aurelius.

Cream ribbon lasse, hard binding with relief elements, embossing with bronze foil, illustrations and gift layout add to the book's appeal. Exquisite design makes the book not only an excellent addition to its collection, but also a pleasant gift to dear people.
