This work is in many ways personal for Rubina. While living in Moscow, the writer and her husband visited Nina Ilyinichna Niss-Goldman, a famous artist. She sculpted works by Bryusov, Babel, and Solzhenitsyn, and was acquainted with Modigliani. It was Nina Ilyinichna who became the inspiration for the book's protagonist.

Anna Borisovna is 95 years old. She is straightforward, sharp-tongued, and still full of energy. She poses for a portrait of her beloved Matvey. She meets his new wife, the translator Nina. And she constantly irritates Petya, who has lived with her for 15 years since his student days. From the outside, it might seem as if they hate each other. Nina even decides that Petya, still struggling to find fulfillment and suitable employment, tolerates the old woman only for the sake of living space. However, Anna Borisovna and Petya share something more. And Nina will soon see this for herself.

"On Verkhnyaya Maslovka" is a story about love, memory, creativity. About life itself.
