Nadezhda Aleksandrovna Teffi (1872-1952) was the "queen of Russian humor," the author of literary parodies, feuilletons, and poetry. She was an enigmatic and intelligent woman who spent her entire life crafting her autobiographical legend and her literary image. She was so popular that perfumes and candies were named after her. Everyone admired her, from Nicholas II to Lenin.

Teffi survived three revolutions, two world wars, and witnessed the horrors of the 20th century, yet retained her sensitive heart and ability to laugh in dire circumstances. After leaving Russia, Teffi wrote a memoir—the story of her farewell to her homeland, which lasted for a year and a half. The book also includes autobiographical feuilletons "My Pseudonym," "First Visit to the Editorial Office," and a collection of memoirs, "My Chronicle," about famous (Balmont, Averchenko, Rasputin, Repin) and little-known (Fondaminsky, Panteleimonov) people of that time whom Teffi knew and who played an important role in the fate of Russia and in the writer's own life. With a smile and tact, she describes each person, seeking to understand and capture their living soul. N. Teffi's memoirs and "chronicle" are a fortress of memory of people and events, a journey into the depths of the human heart.
