Arthur Schopenhauer was a prominent German irrationalist philosopher, a prominent figure in 19th-century postclassical philosophy. This thinker, whose teachings are often called "pessimistic philosophy," believed human life to be meaningless and the existing world to be "the worst of all possible worlds." For Schopenhauer, the world is an "arena strewn with coals" through which man must pass. The driving force behind everything is the will to live, which gives rise to desires. But even if desires are satisfied, man is incapable of experiencing happiness; instead, satiety and boredom await, followed by further desires and suffering.

This edition contains the philosopher's most significant and popular works: "The World as Will and Representation," "Aphorisms of Worldly Wisdom," and "Eristics, or the Art of Winning Arguments." These philosophical treatises perfectly reflect the author's philosophical position and offer the reader an opportunity to appreciate Schopenhauer's creative legacy.
