"Dead Souls" is a cult poem by Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol (1809-1852), combining elements of satire and deep philosophical reflection on the fate of Russia.

The main character, Pavel Ivanovich Chichikov, starts an adventurous enterprise - buying up dead peasants from landowners, which allows him to get rich on paper. Each of the characters personifies various vices of society. The idle dreamer Manilov, the cheeky and unprincipled Nozdryov, the rude and cruel Sobakevich, the narrow-minded and stubborn Korobochka, the stingy and suspicious Plyushkin.
