Charlie, a misguided loser, falls in love with Miranda, a girl with a big secret in her past. When Charlie suddenly comes into some money, the first thing he does is buy Adam, one of the first androids. Together with Miranda, they create Adam's personality. The new creature is a near-perfect human. And soon the trio forms a love triangle. The author asks the most important questions in the novel: what makes us human? what determines our actions and inner world? can a machine understand the human heart? Machines like Adam are our not-too-distant future. Are we ready to perceive an inanimate machine as an animated creature. How perfect androids are and how imperfect we are, sometimes not understanding ourselves.
