Italian laborer Marcovaldo lives in a big city, in a small apartment with a nagging wife and a bunch of kids. He grew up in the countryside and loves nature, so he looks everywhere for signs of living life, he carefully observes flowers and trees, rain and animals. And Markovaldo tries to live in the city as he did in the village, but it is impossible, and he always gets into trouble.
Because of the summer heat, Markovaldo decides to sleep outdoors, but all night long he is awakened by the city noises and lights. Or he takes the children fishing, carefully chooses the place with the clearest water, and then it turns out that upstream at the paint factory there was an accident. Or eagerly waits for mushrooms to ripen on a green patch of land near the bus stop - and ends up in the same hospital room as everyone else who has tasted these mushrooms. Each story ends with an unexpected tragicomic twist that both adults and children will appreciate.
