Italian writer Franco Arminio lives in the small town of Bisaccia, nestled in the mountainous countryside fifty kilometers east of Naples. His signature style—short, rhythmic prose, somewhere between poetry and aphorism—is already familiar to Russian readers from his book "Postcards from the Other World" (2010).

He dedicates his collection "Small Sacred Things" to the simple, inconspicuous details of life: a sprout breaking through rubble, a photograph of a son on his mother's chest, a father asleep at the coffee table, the slightest breeze of breath, and the silence between his toes. One hundred and fifty microtexts, each three or four lines long, echo each other with a ritualistic opening—"holy, holy, holy"—and become a mantra. For Arminio, sacred is anything that instinctively evokes a tender empathy in a person.
