"The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas" is a parable about the Holocaust, told by Bruno, a naive boy who still understands little. It's an extremely unusual, unconventional, and therefore especially terrifying perspective on the horrors of the 20th century.

A film based on the novel has just been made, filmed in Budapest. One of the lead roles is played by English actor David Thewlis, known to audiences for his roles as Paul Verlaine in Agnieszka Holland's drama "Total Eclipse" and Remus Lupin in the "Harry Potter" films. English director Mark Herman won the French César Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1998 for his previous film, "The Bandmasters Put Down Their Trumpets."
