Over half a century of writing, the British detective writer René Brabazon Raymond (1906–1985) published about ninety crime novels and changed several creative pseudonyms. The most famous of them is James Hadley Chase.

“I am like a bloodhound, I follow the trail and sense what the reader wants. And what he will buy” — this is how the master explained the success of his novels, willingly revealing the gold-bearing secret: readers are attracted by “action and rhythm”. In the 20th century, there is no place left for leisurely old-fashioned stories in which an eccentric detective investigates the mysterious murder of an aristocrat in the setting of a cozy country mansion; according to the laws of the new era, the detective uses a revolver almost more often than deduction.

This collection includes novels from the 1950s and 1960s, demonstrating different facets of the writer's work: Mallory and Spring in Paris - stories about the adventures of Martin Corridon in the genre of hard-boiled detective, as well as non-serial novels in the noir genre Another Dupe, based on which the 1998 film Palmetto was filmed, and I Wish I'd Stayed Poor.
