The golden age of detective fiction produced many stellar names—A. Christie, G.K. Chesterton, H.L. Leroux, and others. Among this illustrious group, John Dickson Carr (1906–1977) occupies a place of honor. The "locked-room murder," which avoids frantic chases and shootouts and keeps the pool of suspects as narrow as possible, is the author's favorite technique. Carr lures the reader into a web of cleverly laid traps, false clues, deceptions, and subtle hints, inviting them to participate in solving a cunning puzzle.

This edition includes the novels "The Cemetery for Rent" and "A Night at the Mockingbird's" from the series about the celebrated Sir Henry Merrivale. He is a recognized favorite of Carr's and one of the most entertaining detectives in the history of detective fiction, possessing a rare ability to get into trouble and cause public scandals, as well as solve the mysteries of locked rooms, find missing persons, and interpret miracles while solving "impossible crimes." In addition to the novels, this edition also includes the detective story series "Merrivale, March, and Murder," in which the reader, in addition to Sir Henry, meets another detective—Colonel March of the Department of Strange Complaints.

All works are presented in a new translation.
