Liu Buwei (c. 291-235 BC) - a cultural and political figure of pre-imperial China, a bright and ambitious man, who through complex intrigues and daring adventures came to power himself, becoming chancellor at the court of the kingdom of Qin, and raised the future first emperor of China - Qin Shihuang-di. For a long time remaining the de facto ruler of the state, Liu Buwei paid considerable attention to culture.
He invited more than a thousand scholars of various philosophical schools and schools of thought to Qin, initiating a unique project to concentrate and unify the intellectual wealth of China in a single treatise, creating a kind of philosophical encyclopedia that incorporated the literary, historical, applied knowledge and mythopoetic views of his time - "Liuishi chunqiu" ("Mr. Liu's Springs and Autumns").
"Liuishi chunqiu" can be categorized as a genre of philosophical eclecticism. Warfare and agriculture, astronomical observations, music, rituals, laws and traditions - everything was reflected in this ancient monument inspired by the philosophy of Taoism. The syncretic character and artistic merits of "Liushi Chunqiu", the variety of themes, the volume and richness of the material make it an invaluable source of information about ancient China and one of the precious pearls of the world cultural heritage.
