What could be more horrible than seeking privacy and finding yourself sharing an apartment with a stranger? Madeline Green, a former police officer, and today just an unhappy woman who was abandoned by the man she loved, rented an apartment in Paris. By misunderstanding, the same apartment was rented by the playwright Gaspard Coutance, a misanthrope who can only work alone.

This misunderstanding could have become just an unfortunate episode in the lives of both of them, if not for a very important circumstance: the apartment used to belong to the famous painter Sean Lorenz, who died because he was unable to survive the death of his son Julian.
Madeline and Gaspar recreate step by step his life after Julian's disappearance and discover that there is a mystery connected to the case. And it is possible that Sean was literally one step away from solving it, but death prevented him from bringing the investigation to the end. And now it's up to them - Madeline and Gaspar. The ex-cop and the misanthropic playwright. And who knows, perhaps with the solution they will find themselves.
