Florence Darrow firmly believes she will become a famous writer. After being fired from a publishing house for having an affair with her married boss and trying to blackmail him with the novel, chance gives her a job as a personal assistant to a world-famous young writer who lives as a hermit and hides under the pseudonym Maud Dixon. While traveling in Morocco, Florence fails to control her car and their car falls off a bridge into a river. She ends up in hospital with memory loss and her employer disappears without a trace. Everyone convinces Florence that she was alone in the car. A few days later, the famous writer Maud Dixon leaves the hospital...
