Cormac McCarthy is a modern American classic of the highest caliber, winner of the MacArthur Fellowship "For Genius", a master of complex experiences and non-standard syntax, well known to our readers for his novels "No Country for Old Men" (the Coen brothers' film based on this book won four Oscars), "The Road" (received the Pulitzer Prize and was also filmed) and "The Border Trilogy" (the first novel of which, "Horses, Horses ...", won the US National Book Award and was transferred to the screen by Billy Bob Thornton, the main roles were played by Matt Damon and Penelope Cruz). But McCarthy first became famous for the novel "Blood Meridian; or, the Sunset Scarlet in the West", it was after this book that not only literary critics but also the general public began to talk about him. The venerable Englishman John Banville, the Booker Prize winner, called this novel "a kind of mixture of Dante's Inferno, the Iliad and Moby-Dick." The protagonist of Blood Meridian, a fourteen-year-old teenager from Tennessee, known only as "the kid", becomes the hero of a new epic based on real events and circumstances of the Texas-Mexican border in the mid-19th century, where the market for Indian scalps is booming... Blood Meridian was included in the list of "100 best books in English published between 1923 and 2005" according to Time magazine. In 2006, The New York Times placed this novel in second place on its list of the best American prose published in the past 25 years.
