In the period between the February and October revolutions, the small town on Kotlin Island played an important historical role. Both in May, when the "Kronstadt Republic" emerged, and during the "July Days" in which the Kronstadt detachment took an active part, and in October, when the sailors and soldiers of the local garrison strongly supported the Bolsheviks, Kronstadt and its inhabitants made a notable contribution to Russian (and world) history. This book is dedicated not only to these events, but also to the life of the town on Kotlin during 1917: we will follow the successes and failures of the town's police, see how Kronstadt residents felt about women's equality, and look at the townspeople who attended revolutionary rallies, services in the solemn Naval Cathedral, and a concert by Fyodor Chaliapin.
