The memoirs of Ekaterina Grigoryevna Shulgina were written in Prague in 1924. As the wife of Vasily Vitalyevich Shulgin, a prominent politician of pre-revolutionary Russia, E. G. Shulgina had the opportunity to observe many important events of the early 20th century from a close distance: from the revolution of 1905-1907 to the Civil War. The book provides detailed information about the author’s family members and acquaintances, the activities of the Kievlyanin newspaper, and the underground work of White Guard organizations during the German occupation of Ukraine. One of the central plots of the publication is the death of Shulgina’s son Vasilid in a battle against the Petliurites. Descriptions of the defense of Kyiv in 1918 and the imprisonment of E. G. Shulgina in the Odessa Cheka prison in 1920 are closely connected with such literary works as "The White Guard" by M. A. Bulgakov and "Werther is Already Written" by V. P. Kataev. The book is intended for both specialists and a wide range of readers interested in the history of Russia.
