At the end of the 1970s, Pierre Guyotat began writing The Stories of Samor Machel, a gigantic novel about the fate of an Algerian slave, seducer and self-trading prophet. Writing labor required an inordinate concentration of will and gradually began to displace reality. Pierre Guillot stopped eating and fed only on Compralgil, an analgesic that at that time could be bought without a prescription. In December 1981, Pierre Guyotat fell into a coma: he descended into the abyss of self-destruction and resurrected. "Coma" is a book about how the spirit eats the body.
