Heinrich Wölfflin (1864–1945) was a Swiss scholar and art theorist, a recognized authority in the field of international art history.
His monograph, "Classical Art: An Introduction to the Italian Renaissance," was first published in Munich in 1899 and has since been reprinted numerous times and translated into all European languages.
In the first part of this work, the author uses the works of the great masters of Italian art and their examples to tell the story of the Italian Renaissance. The second part of the book is more theoretical: it examines not individuals but art historical concepts and reveals their essence.
The publication is accompanied by black-and-white and color illustrations, introducing the reader to the outstanding works of Italian art analyzed by the author.
