Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky (1866–1944) was one of the most brilliant and original artists of the 20th century. His greatest achievement is considered to be abstract painting, considered a treasure trove of avant-garde art. He was also an outstanding writer, playwright, theater director, art theorist, and educator who developed his own method of teaching the arts.

This book offers a psychological portrait of an artist immersed in doubts and searches, internal conflicts, difficult relationships, and debates with his time and contemporaries. The dramatic twists and turns of the master's life were such that it seemed as if he had lived several lifetimes. Within the book, the reader will discover a diverse constellation of artists and historical figures with whom Kandinsky had various relationships—from painters from Russia and Germany to leading musicians and poets from various countries, as well as thinkers and scientists of the early and first half of the 20th century.
