The early years of nurse Parovozov

This book is based on true events. It takes place in pre-Perestroika Moscow, with its empty store shelves and high hopes. The author, a doctor by profession, recounts his youth in the 1980s. His dream of attending university didn't come true right away. Alexey Motorov graduated from medical school and worked for several years as a nurse in the intensive care unit. This experience was so vivid that his memoirs feel like a gripping novel, full of funny, almost anecdotal episodes and fascinating signs of the times. With ease and humor, Motorov describes life in a huge Moscow hospital—with all its problems and difficulties, complex relationships, tragic and happy moments, and, at times, purely Soviet absurdities. The characters' names have been changed, but everything that unfolds within the book's pages actually happened.
