The tenth century. The rise of Rus'. A time of legends. A time of heroes. This isn't fantasy. This is history. The world is cruel, yet captivatingly beautiful. This is how you would see it if you were to wake up one day, in the tenth century. A world in which a stranger from the future seems to have only two paths: slavery or death. However, a true hero is one who achieves the impossible.
Civil strife is a terrible time. Voivode Seryogei, aka Sergei Ivanovich Dukharev, the only survivor of the terrible battle on Khorsa Island, serves Prince Yaropolk of Kyiv. Both he and his sons, Artem and Boguslav, serve him.
However, Voivode Seryogei shares a common fate with Vladimir, who rose up against his brother. Moreover, the Voivode likes Vladimir. Brave and daring, like his Viking friends, decisive and warlike, Vladimir is far more like his father, Svyatoslav, than Yaropolk, who grew up in the shadow of Grand Duchess Olga.
The hearts of the voivode Sergei and his sons are with Vladimir, but their swords are for Yaropolk. And they have no choice, for Vladimir's banner reads "For the Old Gods," while the voivode and his kin are Christians...
