Milorad Pavic is a Serbian novelist who has been dubbed by critics as nothing less than the first writer of the twenty-first century. In his works, magic realism is intertwined with hypertextuality, allowing the reader to influence the plot. The story of The Writing Box begins at the moment of ending. It is a mystery novel, a labyrinthine novel that one delves deeper into with each chapter. Inside the drawer - in postcards, an ad, a recipe, a manuscript, pages torn from a book, film and photography - is a complicated love story between two extraordinary individuals. The fate of an unknown French woman who can read smells and buys the most expensive fur coat in Paris twice for free, and a young man looking for a girl with a female version of the Khazar Dictionary and who has forgotten Serbian in seven lessons, are intertwined in a writing box. Their relationship is measured by a love clock that measures the length of the love act. Sometimes one or more drops of time fall together, sometimes one drop of love time is larger and the next is shallower... This is a story without words about what love is. There are two endings to the novel, one of which can be discovered by clicking on the QR code.
