The long-awaited reissue of the contemporary Chinese novel "I Am Not Pan Jinlian" in a new edition! From the author, winner of the prestigious Mao Dun Prize! The novel has been adapted for the screen and staged at the Theater of Nations. A comedy about Chinese bureaucracy, full of fury and absurdity.
Li Xueliang is married to Qin Yuhe and is pregnant with her second child. Good news? Not in China, in the days of birth control. One family, one child! The only solution is to divorce her husband before their daughter is born and then remarry. But things don't go according to plan—Qin Yuhe marries another woman and insults his ex-wife, calling her by the name of the harlot Pan Jinlian from the 14th-century novel "Water Margin." Mad with rage, Li Xueliang decides to demand that the officials recognize the divorce as a sham. Will she succeed in getting revenge?
The novel "I Am Not Pan Jinlian" by contemporary Chinese writer Liu Zhenyun was adapted into a film in 2016 (in Russian translation as "I Am Not Madame Bovary") and became the basis for the production "I Did Not Kill My Husband" at the Theatre of Nations.
