This book, published in the year of the centenary of the Irish Republican Army, is dedicated to the struggle of the Irish people for their freedom and independence in the twentieth century. It shows the complex nature of the Irish knot of religious, social, economic and national contradictions. Such important historical events as the struggle for Home Rule, the legendary Easter Rising of 1916, the War of Independence of 1919-1921 and the civil war that followed it, and especially the civil confrontation in Northern Ireland, which began in 1969 and lost its intensity only in the 1990s, are covered in detail. With German pedantry, the work provides many precise figures and facts intended to illuminate the real state of affairs. Particular attention is paid to the history of nationalist organizations: the Irish Republican Brotherhood, the Sinn Fein party and, of course, the famous Irish Republican Army (including its factions: "Official", "Provisional" and "Genuine"). The specifics of Irish nationalism are shown, combining a "left" economic program with strict demands to defend the identity of national culture and preserve the native Gaelic language.
