Ideal days

The novel's hero, journalist Louis, tired of his job and, most importantly, his family life, attends a convention in Austin, Texas, where he meets a woman who fills his life with new meaning. Louis always dreamed of occasionally experiencing "perfect days," marked by extreme emotional intensity and boundless freedom. He found his inspiration in the letters of William Faulkner, which he accidentally discovered in the University of Austin archives. It is precisely these "perfect days" that Faulkner tries to recreate in his address to his beloved Meta Carpenter. But can happiness and love last? How can boredom and routine prevent them from being destroyed? Bergareche considers these questions eternal and therefore does not attempt to provide definitive answers. Nevertheless, the hero shares with readers some recipes gleaned from his own life experience.
