The history of the Roman family is examined through the prism of a civilizational approach, placing the family, the fundamental socioeconomic unit of ancient Roman society, and its head at the center of Roman history. The monograph examines a wide range of written, epigraphic, and archaeological sources. The family's economic life and structure are traced from the 3rd century BC to the fall of the republic at the end of the 1st century BC. Its evolution is closely linked to processes occurring within the Roman civic community and changes in the political system of ancient Rome. The book demonstrates the dynamics of the development, rise, and fall of the senatorial-equestrian and municipal nobility in the sphere of economic activity. The author reasonably concludes that the rise of the Roman civic community is linked to the rise of the Roman nobility's family, and that the economic crisis of the family directly influenced the crisis of the civic community and the fall of the republic in Rome. The monograph is dedicated to the outstanding Russian classical scholars V. I. Kuzishchin and E. M. Shtaerman, whose fundamental research remains relevant today.
