Twins Iris and Floyd Renshaw, descendants of exiled English convicts, live in remote areas of Tasmania, struggling to make ends meet. Through casual acquaintances, they learn of a generous reward for the head of a puma nicknamed Cloud. These predators were once introduced to the area to control the over-abundance of deer, and now the last remaining puma terrorizes the landscape, killing sheep and people. Lacking weapons or a clear plan, the brother and sister venture into the harsh and mystical highlands. But there, their confrontation with the wild escalates into something more than a simple hunt, forcing them to confront both the ancient secrets of the land and their own dark past. The line between hunter and hunted blurs increasingly, and the predatory greed of humans proves no less dangerous than the instincts of a wild animal.

This novel by Robbie Arnott, one of Australia's most exciting contemporary writers, combines elements of Western, thriller and magical realism.
