The writer's most famous work was the treatise "The Sovereign", originally published in Russia under the titles "Prince" and "Ruler". Machiavelli created a doctrine of a consistently secular state, free from church morality. He believed that in the struggle to strengthen the state, any means are permissible: violence, deception, betrayal. The term "Machiavellianism" that appeared later began to denote a policy that neglects the laws of morality. However, today many of the author's provisions are perceived as self-evident, having found their embodiment in the history of the 20th century.

The book also includes the brilliant treatise by Niccolo Machiavelli "On the Art of War", which stunned contemporaries with its tough and practical approach not only to military tactics, but also to strategy.
