The proposed edition is the first publication of a large fragment of the diary of the famous pianist, teacher, composer, musical and public figure, professor of the Moscow Conservatory Alexander Borisovich Goldenweiser (1875-1961). The book includes entries for all 1418 days of the Great Patriotic War.
The wartime diary is a valuable source of information about the life and workdays of not only the author himself, but also a large group of cultural figures evacuated in August 1941 to Nalchik, and then to Tbilisi and further to Tashkent: K.N. Igumnov, V.I. Kachalov, O.L. Knipper-Chekhova, I.M. Moskvin, N.Ya. Myaskovsky, S.S. Prokofiev, A.K. Tarasova, S.E. Feinberg and others.
At the end of the volume there is an editorial commentary, as well as a brief chronograph of Goldenweiser's creative activity during the four years of the war. The book is illustrated with photographs and facsimile reproductions of documents, and is supplied with the necessary reference apparatus. The publication is addressed to musicologists, as well as to all those interested in the history of Russian culture.
