Alexander Brass's new book deals with the history of left-radical terrorist movements of the 1970s. Pseudo-revolutionary romance (read "politicized criminals") gave birth to many youth organizations that, declaring communist goals and actively using terrorist methods, for a long time made the powers-that-be drop their hands in impotence before their daring antics. One of the most prominent left-extremist terrorist organizations, the RAF, was formed in the left-radical intellectual youth milieu in the late 1960s, with several dozen young people as members. The RAF kept the whole of Germany in fear for more than 30 years, giving rise to all sorts of myths and questions, from its practical activities to the strange "group suicide" of its first-generation leaders held in solitary confinement in Stuttgart's Stammheim prison. The story of the RAF's rise and fall is the subject of Alexander Brass's book.
