Andre Morois, a classic of French literature of the 20th century, author of the famous novelized biographies of Dumas, Balzac, Victor Hugo and others, is considered a true master of the psychological novel. However, it was the short story throughout his life was his favorite genre. The collection "Violets on Wednesdays" includes short stories of different years - true masterpieces of small prose, amazing colored by lyricism, subtle irony, equipped with an unexpected denouement. Unfortunately, the Russian reader "Violets on Wednesdays" for more than half a century have been mostly in a severely truncated version (except for the 2012 edition usually printed only a third of the original composition). It is all the more pleasant to present in full this pearly string of short stories by Morois, who has worthily continued the brilliant tradition of Balzac, Stendhal, and Maupassant.
