Alexander Vasiliev (b. 1958) - fashion historian, TV presenter, theater artist, President of the Alexander Vasiliev Foundation, Honorary Member of the Academy of Arts of Russia, Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters of France and the Order of the Cross of Latvia. Scientific director of the program "Theory and Industry of Fashion" at Moscow State University, author of numerous books on the history of fashion, which have become bestsellers: "Beauty in Exile", "Russian Fashion. 150 Years in Photographs", "Russian Hollywood", and others.
The Vasilyevs' family tree is unusually branchy. In the family of Alexander Vasiliev were French and English aristocrats, statesmen of the era of Catherine the Great, actors, opera singers, theater directors and artists. He himself became a world-famous fashion historian and owner of a unique collection of historical costume. However, by his own admission, the most important family treasure for him is his memoirs, which are included in this book. The first part of the book is the memoirs of Peter Pavlovich Vasiliev, theater director and uncle of Alexander Vasiliev, about the family's life in pre-revolutionary Samara and wanderings in Siberia, which ended in Moscow. The second part is the memories of our hero's father, Alexander Pavlovich - a famous theater artist. And the third part features the voice of Alexander Vasiliev himself, telling about his talented ancestors and the birth of the famous collection, about his childhood and first love, about his work in the theater and emigration to Paris.
