Eugene Onegin. In 2 volumes
Book 2. A. S. Pushkin's novel "Eugene Onegin". Commentary by Yuri Lotman. One of the best works dedicated to the novel by A. S. Pushkin “Eugene Onegin” is rightfully considered “Commentary” by Yuri Lotman. The mood of the "Commentary" is set by the author at the very beginning of the "Essay on the noble life of the Onegin era", which allows you to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of that era: to see how the surrounding space - Moscow, St. Petersburg, the village - affects the heroes of the novel, what makes up the day of a secular person, what rituals are necessary for a duel, what are roads and means of transportation and much more. And then verse by verse, Lotman analyzes the novel to give explanations necessary for understanding the Pushkin text: reveals the meaning of words, objects and phenomena of that time; reveals reminiscences and hidden quotes, introduces the reader into the context of the era. According to Lotman, understanding Eugene Onegin is “a task that requires work, love and culture.” The scientist did everything possible to help the reader see behind the laconicity and ease of the Pushkin language the entire depth of this great work. The publication contains photo reproductions of paintings, engravings, photographs of household items from the collections of museums of the world, including the All-Russian Museum of A. S. Pushkin.
