David Garrett was born in Aachen, the son of an American prima ballerina and a German lawyer who later became involved in the violin trade. Through perseverance and discipline, already at the age of ten young David was performing on stage with major international orchestras. Later, as a teenager, he virtuoso performed the most difficult works by composers such as Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Paganini, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff. However, as with all star prodigies, and in his life came a turning point when it was necessary to decide how to move on in the adult world of classical music. Young David traveled to New York City, to one of the most prestigious institutions in the arts, The Juilliard School. Not the least role in this decision was the mentorship of renowned violinists Ida Handel and Isaac Stern, as well as meeting Itzhak Perlman. It was there that he first tried a new musical style, a crossover between classical and pop music, which would later bring him international fame.
This is the success story of German virtuoso violinist and innovator David Garrett, told by himself. This is the story of his rise to prominence in classical music and its backstage, of ups and downs, of successes and difficulties, but first and foremost it is a story of love for music.
