Vyacheslav Nedoshivin is a writer and the author of "Addresses of Love: Houses and Households of Russian Literature" and "Walks Through the Silver Age." For many years—from his dissertation on dystopias in 1985 to articles in scholarly collections and journals ("Foreign Literature")—he studied George Orwell and translated his works. This work culminated in a detailed biography of the English classic, which was awarded the Venets Prize (2020) by the Writers' Union of Moscow and the Alexander Belyaev Prize (2022).
"George Orwell: An Inaccessible Soul" is not only a fascinating account of the writer's life and books, his views, and his era, but also his first "Russian portrait." About the Russian woman he fell in love with, about the Russian émigré officer who rescued him in Paris, and about a front-line friend from St. Petersburg who, conversely, was rescued in Spain by Orwell himself, about the writer's diaries that disappeared in the basements of the Lubyanka, and about correspondence with the USSR that was only made public in our country in the 1990s...
The book is illustrated with unique photographs from the writer's London archive, many of which are being published in Russia for the first time.
