This publication, illustrated with rare photographs from the Moscow Art Theater Museum archive, presents the fictional biographies of two actresses – Olga Leonardovna and Olga Konstantinovna Knipper-Chekhov. The first book of the novel, "Two Olga Chekhovs: Two Fates," is dedicated to the actress Olga Leonardovna Knipper and her complex relationship with the writer Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, with whom, despite him being a confirmed bachelor, she nevertheless walks down the aisle. How did she achieve this? Were they happy?
The entire story of their relationship unfolds against the backdrop of the emergence of the Moscow Art Theater. Along with the novel's characters, the reader will experience all the difficulties of organizing this new temple of art, which, as it turns out, will be dominated not only by the search for new systems for the actor's existence on stage, but also by the subtle behind-the-scenes intrigues that no theater in the world has ever managed without, no matter how pure and lofty its goals.
The book contains rare photographs of O.L. Knipper-Chekhova, A.P. Chekhov, and many others, courtesy of the Moscow Art Theater Museum.
The second book of the novel, "Two Olga Chekhovs. Two Fates," is dedicated to the niece of Olga Leonardovna Knipper-Chekhova, the daughter of her older brother, Konstantin. The life story of the beautiful Olga Konstantinovna Knipper, who by fate also became a Chekhova after marrying Anton Pavlovich's nephew, actor Mikhail Chekhov, is rich in events. The birth of her daughter, her husband's infidelity, divorce, and the difficult years of revolution, followed by her escape to Germany, where she begins a successful film career and, with Hitler's rise to power, becomes his favorite actress. But does she unconditionally accept what is happening in Germany at this time? Does she help Soviet intelligence in the fight against the advancing fascist ideology?
In two books: Book One. Olga Leonardovna. Book Two. Olga Konstantinovna.
