Jacob Hunt is eighteen years old. He has a severe form of autism. He is unable to communicate normally with others and takes everything too literally. Yet he is a gifted mathematician and an excellent analyst with a passion for forensics. With the help of an illegal police scanner, he finds out where the next crime has been committed and tells the police in which direction to investigate. And he's usually right. But when a brutal murder occurs in the city, the police come to the Hunt house. The detectives, unfamiliar with the symptoms of autism, mistake Jacob's odd behavior for remorse and make him the prime suspect. For Jacob's mother, it's further evidence of society's intolerance, and for his younger brother, it's another reminder of the abnormal situation in the family due to Jacob's illness. This begs the question: could Jacob have committed the murder?
