The book is timed to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great Belarusian writer, participant of the Great Patriotic War Vasil Bykov (1924-2003). Having graduated from the infantry school in the rank of junior lieutenant, Bykov fought from the fall of 1943 until the victorious May 1945; wounded three times, he wore a shrapnel in his right hand until the end of his days. In all of the writer's works there is one unchanging hero, and it is by no means the author himself, whose invisible presence is somehow tangible every time. This hero is the truth. And to this hero Bykov remained faithful in the darkest years, when he was banned and poisoned "from Moscow to the outskirts. Memories "Long Road Home" was the last book of Vasil Bykov. With his inherent frankness, the author tells about the most vivid episodes of his life, gives an assessment of socio-political and cultural processes that took place before his eyes. And although autobiographical moments are present to a greater or lesser extent in most of Bykov's works, this latest book is undoubtedly the most confessional.
