Dostoevsky's "A Writer's Diary" is more than just another work by the author; it is a synthesis of thoughts and ideas that helped Russian society better understand and evaluate events in the country and the world, shape its own views, and observe life itself, events, and the destinies of people.

The only August 1880 issue of "The Diary" included Dostoevsky's speech about Pushkin. A monumental event for Russian cultural life, in it the author not only shared his innermost thoughts about Pushkin's work, about the "universality and universality of his genius," but also summarized all the work he had been doing in his "Diaries."

"I hope to resume the publication of 'A Writer's Diary' in the coming year of 1881, if my health permits," the author wrote in the notes to the 1880 edition of the Diary. But this was not to be—the resumed edition (after completing The Brothers Karamazov) was published after the writer's death.

The edition is supplemented with notebooks, as well as diary and autobiographical materials.
