Søren Kierkegaard was a Danish thinker, theologian, and writer, one of the founders of modern existential philosophy.

This edition includes excerpts from Kierkegaard's major work, "Either/Or" (1843): "Aphorisms of an Esthetician," "The Unhappy One," and "The Harmonious Development of the Esthetic and Ethical Principles in the Human Personality." But the most important of these is "The Seducer's Diary"—a captivating story of temptation and masterful seduction, transformed into pure art. This first-person novel profoundly and poetically portrays Kierkegaard's complex relationship with his lover, Regina Olsen. Through the images of fictional characters—a young girl with the Shakespearean name Cordelia and the seductive aesthetician Johannes—the philosopher illustrates the ideal strategy of love's subjugation, which involves playing with human feelings and emotions.

The edition includes illustrations and commentary.
