Frida Vigdorova is a talented writer, journalist, public figure. The author of the trilogy “The Road to Life”, “This is my favorite house”, “Chernihivka”, dilogy “Family happiness”, “Favorite street”, the story “My class”.
A special page in the biography of Frida Vigdorova was the participation in the defense of the young poet Joseph Brodsky. In 1964, when he was remanded in custody on an absurd charge of parasitism, she attended the trial and documented the mockery of the poet and the very idea of justice in recordings subsequently widely circulated in samizdat and abroad under the title “Courtroom”.
But she wasn't just protecting Brodsky. Village old men who the chairman wouldn't give straw to fix a leaky roof. Helpless residents of a disabled home. A teenager with a difficult fate, lost his way, got into a colony... It is impossible to count all those whom she helped, for whom she stood up, supported, about whose fate she wrote in the newspapers, for whom she went to the courts and fought, winning from the soulless bureaucratic machine what was rightfully due to a man.
But in addition to the work of a journalist, and later a deputy of the district council, Frida Vigdorov did the most important work on earth - raising children. The mother of two daughters, she kept a diary for many years. "Girls." “Mother’s Diary” is both a historical and deeply personal document, in which both the image of time and eternal questions arise behind the description of everyday life. These recordings are full of warmth and light, humor, tenderness and insightful respect for the individual.
“For all its intimacy,” wrote Lydia Chukovskaya, “this Diary has an objective interest and will one day be read by thousands of people like a favorite book: the characters of Diary, small and large, will be loved by readers no less than the characters of Tom Sawyer or Alice in Wonderland.”
In addition to the “Diary” and the famous “Court”, this edition includes “Notes of a Journalist”, “Deputy Notepads” and “Writer’s Notepads”, the unfinished story “The Teacher”, as well as selected articles, essays and letters by Frida Vigdorova.
