Vladimir Klavdievich Arsenyev (1872–1930) was a distinguished traveler, geographer, ethnographer, and writer. His celebrated novella "Dersu Uzala," based on impressions and diary entries from an expedition through the Ussuri region, became one of the pinnacles of Russian adventure and geographical literature. The book reveals the wondrous world of the Far East—its majestic nature, the lives of indigenous peoples, and the story of the unusual friendship between a Russian officer and a Nanai hunter, Dersu Uzala. "Dersu Uzala" is not only an adventure story but also a reflection on the connection between man and nature, wisdom, simplicity, and spiritual richness.

The book served as the basis for two film adaptations: a 1961 Soviet film directed by Agassi Babayan and a 1975 Soviet-Japanese film directed by Akira Kurosawa, which won an Oscar. The series "Arsenyev," dedicated to the life and expeditions of Vladimir Arsenyev, is scheduled to be released in 2026, with Yevgeny Mironov playing the lead role.
