"A Day Across the Week" is a novel of short stories about family, friendship, and the changing times that both the 1990s and today represent. The protagonist, a boy born during the perestroika era, a teenager of the 1990s, grows up before our eyes, story after story. His family seeks a better life, the historical backdrop rapidly changes, but the 1990s are depicted without the horrors of gangsterism and politics; we see them through the eyes of a teenager, and a child's eye captures more color. The final story returns the reader to the present day—with cell phones, coffee on every corner, and a grim news feed. And on one of those days—across the week—the fate of the protagonist, now an adult, a forty-year-old man, changes dramatically.
