The collection of color slides presented in the book was created by a career Swedish military officer, General Staff officer and passionate traveler Karl Elof Berggren (1875-1969), whose life and career were closely associated with Russia.
At the beginning of the XIX century, K. E. Berggren made a number of unusual trips around the Russian Empire, fixing on the fragile surface of glass both iconic and little-known corners of the empire, their inhabitants, colorful life. In the pictures together with the photographer we observe the chronicle of the country of the early twentieth century. Thanks to the manually added color, the slides are no longer just documentary filming. They build a deep emotional connection with the fragments of that world and the author himself, who left us his vivid view of the last years of a great country.
