Sergey Dovlatov is one of the most popular and readable Russian writers of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. His novels, stories, notebooks have been translated into many languages, screened, studied in schools and universities. Amazingly funny and at the same time piercingly sad prose Dovlatov has long become a classic and kinship the writer with such masters of tragicomic prose, such as A. Chekhov, Taffy, A. Averchenko, M. Zoshchenko. "Suitcase" - one of the most characteristic Dovlatov's collections, dedicated, in the words of the author, "the contents of the emigrant suitcase." Here is how Dovlatov himself described his book: "The center of Dovlatov's new book is a suitcase, an ordinary tattered suitcase, with which the emigrant Dovlatov left his homeland. Unpacking it after months of wandering, the hero is convinced that behind every thing in the suitcase, there is a dramatic, funny or ridiculous story".
